Zoetrope

The human eye has the ability to persist the detail of the object for time equal to 1/6th seconds after the removal of the object. This time is known as persistence of vision.

A zoetrope is an early form object which causes us to see moving images. The zoetrope is a cylinder that has slits cut around the side of it allowing you to see through the sides. Inside the cylinder it consists of a strip with images drawn on it. Although the images don’t have to be drawn images, they can also be photos. If you then spin the Zoetrope, it will create the illusion of motion.

Positive:

1.  Simple animation device

2.  Creates the illusion of movement

Negative:

1.  Amount of frames are limited

2.  The way you view it has to be just from the side and not the top, otherwise all you'd see is a blur

3.  Long process if you have to draw on the strip
