Evalutaion
Our advert that we produced is based on Calvin Klein Shock perfume. Our concept was very simple, yet youthful and energetic. Our advert was simply about lively characters dancing around. At the end it ends with the product it self, the name and the slogan ‘Forever Young’ which reflects our whole concept.
I thought everything went well after we had sorted out our location difficulties. The location ended up working out well, although we had a better location in mind at first.
What I liked the most about this project the filming and editing. I liked working as a team. I was really happy about the way we supported each other throughout the whole process, and making decisions we would all agree with.
I think that I’m really pleased with all aspects of our perfume advert. But particularly, I was pleased with whole editing techniques that was used; it was the effects and the music that really made our advert look and sound good. I also like the image we gave off with the checkered shirts, it gave off a youthful vibe (to our target audience), and so they’re most likely to buy the product.
I think that our advert compares to the professional version in many ways. We both have similarities and differences. The similarities are that we both use crazy energetic music; we also used characters that seem outgoing and confident. In terms of editing, we also both used short snappy scenes. The differences are, we used youths so it aimed more at the younger generation. Plus it reflects on teenage life style. However, with the professional advert, its obviously aimed at adults, They used sexual scenes, so the target audience is preferably aimed at the age of 20 and over.
I think that we used a few persuasive techniques. We used good-looking people, and I think we mostly used personality to convey our product. We also used a bit of comedy and humour. Those are the aspects that would help sell our product. I think that if we would be able to adjust a few things, and add any extra final touches to it, I think it could have the potential to be successful in selling the product.
The target audiences for our advert range from the ages of 16 to 25, both genders (male and female) and all ethnicities. I think it’s also aimed at the middle and upper class people.
What I didn’t like was when we were first set off to start filming our advert, we had problems with the room we wanted to film in, and had all the equipment we needed, but unfortunatly as it was in use most of the time; we couldn't film much. We also planned on having loads of dancers in the background but most of them didn’t show up, so that was a let down. So after that when we had realized we didn't have much time left and that our original concept needed to be changed, we used the photography room instead, a main girl and boy with no dancers in the back to keep it simple.
To prevent these problems from happening again I would make sure that the location I want to film in is free in advance or try and book it. With the whole situation with the dancers we should have got some contact information e.g. phone number, email etc, to stay in contact to make sure if they were going to turn up or not. So that’s what I would make sure to do in the future to avoid problems.
According to the feedback we received, the audience thought that it looked professional, and they liked the whole idea of everyone wearing the checkered shirts. They liked the editing skills that were used, and thought that it was well complimented with the music. The feedback I gathered made me feel proud of the work me and my group produced, and made me realize that they genuinely did enjoy watching the advert. It also made me feel that hard work does pay off. On the other hand, some people suggested that we could have tried harder with the lighting, and thought that certain footages used were a bit random. I'm going to take in every negative and positive comment into account, and hopefully it will be something that could help me produce better work in the future.
